Back in 2015, when he was considering running for president and never missed an opportunity to criticize President Obama for anything and everything, Donald Trump commented that if he were head of state, he would work all the time:
“I would not be a president who took vacations. I would not be a president that takes time off.”
However, once he became president, Trump soon changed his tune and began golfing nearly every weekend.
In his latest venture into rank hypocrisy, President Trump is insisting that Congress delay their August recess (i.e. vacation) and continue working on the disastrous repeal and replacement healthcare bill. Just last week, Trump commented:
“We shouldn’t leave town until this is complete. We should hammer this out and get it done.”
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell bowed to the president’s edict and postponed the recess until the third week of August:
“In order to provide more time to complete action on important legislative items and process nominees that have been stalled by a lack of cooperation from our friends across the aisle.”
Yeah, blame someone else, Mitch. Did you learn that tactic from Donnie?
Yet while Congress stays in Washington, it appears Trump is on the verge of taking an 18-day siesta of golf and relaxation.
According to Newsweek:
“Federal Aviation Administration records suggest Trump is planning to go to his Bedminster, New Jersey, golf course from August 3 to 20. The FAA announced temporary flight restrictions in the Bedminster area during that period. “
Almost three weeks of vacation? Nice work if you can get it, huh?
Will three more weeks help Republicans pass their draconian healthcare legislation? Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer doubts it will:
“The problem the Republicans are having with health care is not time—it’s the substance of the bill. They can spend two more weeks, two more months, two years. As long as this bill continues to cut taxes on the very wealthy and hurt working Americans, the bill is going to be as unpopular as it is today.”
In the meantime, if anyone needs the president over the next few weeks, he’ll be working hard on perfecting his putting.
