Scottie Nell Hughes, who works as a political commentator on CNN and thinks Donald Trump is the greatest man since Abraham Lincoln, makes my skin crawl. OK, so there’s that. But over the weekend this massively ignorant piece of detritus said something so objectionable that even she is having to try and walk it back.
Hughes was discussing the choice of Virginia Senator Tim Kaine as the running mate for Hillary Clinton, and rather than make any substantive points of how she disagrees with Kaine on policy, Hughes chose to head for the gutter and try and pander to the lowest common denominator of ignorance by saying she couldn’t understand Senator Kaine when he spoke Spanish at a rally in Miami:
“What Mr. Trump did, he spoke in a language all Americans can understand ― that is English. I didn’t have to get a translator for anything that was going on at the [Republican National Convention] this week.
“I’m hoping I’m not going to have to start brushing up on my ‘Dora the Explorer’ to understand some of the speeches given this week.”
So now it’s a bad thing if a person is bilingual? We should discourage our children from learning a second language such as Spanish? Or is Ms. Hughes just trying to stir up hatred against Hispanics, much like Trump has been doing since he announced his candidacy in June of last year?
Hughes then tried this pathetic attempt at an apology, which wasn’t actually an apology at all:
I never meant 2 cause hurt rather attempt 2 reference a cute tool I learned/taught Spanish 2 my own children obviously failed. I was wrong

Oh, then all is forgiven, Scottie. NOT! Hughes is getting scorched on social media, as well she should:
@scottienhughes thanks for showing your true colors and helping Latinos like my parents, who were on the fence, make their decision easier

@scottienhughes you should be ashamed.

@scottienhughes How's that Republican Hispanic outreach going?

Feel free to send Hughes some comments of your own on Twitter. I know I sure did. As the old saying goes, If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem. Scottie Nell Hughes is clearly part of the problem.
