Though it seemed that things could not possibly get any worse for Donald Trump’s reelection campaign, new polling data shows that the president’s quest for a second term in office is more endangered than ever before.
A new NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll reveals that 58 percent of those surveyed said they disapprove of the job Trump is doing as president, an all-time high for the current resident of the White House, according to The Hill:
“The percent of respondents who disapprove of the job he’s doing in the White House reached its highest level yet this month, at 58 percent.
“Among registered voters included in the survey, Trump did not fare much better. Fifty-seven percent said they disapprove of his job performance, while 41 percent approved.”
The demographic breakdown of voting blocs also contains terrible news for Trump, with African-Americans, white voters, and suburban residents all saying they’re dissatisfied with the job the president is doing.
In a head-to-head matchup against Joe Biden, Trump trails by eight points, with the Democratic challenger holding a 52 to 44 percent advantage.
But perhaps the most concerning data that has hit the campaign this week came from polls in key battleground states, all of which are leaning toward Biden:
“A Marquette Law School poll of Wisconsin released this week found Trump’s support among GOP voters in the state dropping 10 points, from 93 percent to 83 percent. Biden held a 9-point overall advantage over Trump in that poll.”
Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania were the three key states that provided Trump’s electoral margin of victory in 2016.
How bad are things for the Trump 2020 campaign? Jonathan Martin of The New York Times reports that the Trump team has been forced to buy ad time in Georgia and Texas, both of which went big for the president four years ago but are now trending to Biden. That alone proves just how desperate Trump’s campaign advisers are and how far he’s behind are across the country.
There are still four months until the election. But with coronavirus again spiking in over a dozen states — several of which voted for Trump in the last election — things are looking dire for the president. And with his increasingly feckless response to the issues that concern voters, Trump’s poll numbers seem likely to sink even more in the weeks ahead.
