Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, who has made every attempt to accommodate, placate, and apologize for Donald Trump, is now finding out that the pretend president is nothing but a self-serving shark who is only to happy to stick a dagger in his back when he falls short of expectations.
Politico reports that on Wednesday evening, staffers from the White House met with key house Republicans, and the meeting quickly deteriorated to the level that aides to Donald Trump began dropping hints that Ryan may not keep his position as speaker if he’s unable to pass a repeal and replacement for Obamacare. One person with knowledge of the meeting commented:
“It was really bad. They were in total meltdown, total chaos mode.”
One of the White House officials who allegedly told Ryan his job could be on the line was Chief of Staff Reince Priebus, but other White House representatives included Jared Kushner, Steve Bannon, and Vice President Mike Pence. Ryan was reportedly told he needed to hold another vote on Trumpcare before the upcoming Congressional recess.
The report from Politico also noted that the White House has been repeatedly lashing out at GOP leaders in recent days as they get pressure from voters who supported Trump and his promise to eliminate the Affordable Care Act. Politico says other Republicans at the meeting were also warned that their jobs could be on the line.
But the White House has a problem when it comes to issuing threats: Trump is in the low 30s on job approval ratings and has no leverage over anyone. He’s also under investigation for being a traitor who sold his country out to Russian president Vladimir Putin.
If Trump does manage to get the House to pass his replacement bill for the Affordable Care Act, his poll numbers will plummet even lower as investigations into the treachery his aides engaged in to win the 2016 election continue to reveal new information.
