Was That A Donald Trump Press Conference Or A Theater Of The Absurd Performance?

WTF was that?!

If you watched the so-called “press conference” Donald Trump held today, then you may feel as if you just emerged from a surreal landscape where nothing is as it seems. Salvador Dali would be damn proud.

It began with the warm-up acts: Sean Spicer and Mike Pence. Why were they called on to make remarks? Does Trump need his own Ed McMahon to travel with him and prep the audience before he takes the stage? Or is it all just window dressing? Either way, it came off as staged and downright bizarre.

Then Trump stood before the assembled media and made statements in which he both attacked and praised the press, saying he couldn’t believe some news outlets ran with a story about Russia having compromising information regarding his personal and financial dealings. He took a couple of questions and then turned it over to his lawyer who explained what we suspected: Trump will not put his holdings in a blind trust. Instead, his two sons will run Trump Enterprises and promise to never ever talk business with daddy. (Wink, wink.)

This piece of absurdist theater then culminated with Trump again taking questions, but he refused to allow CNN’s Jim Acosta to ask one, accusing the network of propagating “fake news.”

When it was over with, I had to wipe my eyes and ask myself: Did that really happen? Or was it all part of a strange dream I had?

Oh, it’s real all right. Frighteningly so. We are about to live in the America that Donald Trump will be the leader of. And while he may not have any ties to Russia and Vladimir Putin, why doesn’t he at least attempt to prove the rumors are wrong by releasing his tax returns so we can see where he’s invested and who owns stakes in his company? Trump says he’s under audit, but will not show the letter from the IRS proving he’s being audited. And there’s nothing that prevents a person under audit from releasing their tax return. None.

But perhaps the crowning touch to the dog and pony show Trump gave us today is this tweet he sent out:

No, Donald, Nazi Germany in America begins the day you take office. Or maybe that was just a dream you had. Who can say?

But we can say this, and the facts prove it: This man is dangerous, is unstable, and will bring nothing but bad to the United States.
