Bryan Cranston’s Message To Dick Cheney: ‘Shame On You’ For What You Did To America

I want to say right up front that Bryan Cranston is one of my favorite actors working today. I was a huge fan of “Breaking Bad,” and one of the main reasons I watched it so faithfully was because Cranston has such an amazing ability to bring reality and depth to the characters he plays.

And after reading what he said during an interview with “The Daily Beast,” I like Cranston even more.

Cranston had this to say about the subject of former Vice President Dick Cheney aka Dr. Evil. Talking about politicians using fear to motivate voters to cast their ballots, Cranston remarked:

“We saw that in the middle of George W. Bush’s presidencyDick Cheney said something to the effect of, ‘If Bush isn’t reelected, there will be another attack on American soil.’ That’s nothing but fear mongering.”

Then Cranston added that he had three simple words for Cheney:

“And shame on him. If I ever get a chance to meet him, I would say those three words: Shame on you.”

During the extensive interview, Cranston also lamented the way in which conservatives have sought to demonize the concept of socialism:

“It has been demonized—and they’ve done well. What the public perceives to be the truth is how they behave—and how they respond—and they were able to get this sensibility out and scare the people into thinking that this was happening.”

Despite his strong political beliefs, Cranston also said that actors who are conservative should not be ostracized just because they disagree with liberals in Hollywood:

“The biggest problem I think we have is the polemic nature of politics, and in Hollywood, it’s castigating someone who doesn’t think the same as you and branding them the villain. I look at Fox News and I honestly don’t demonize them at all; I honestly believe that what they’re saying they believe in, and for that I can’t fault them. I disagree, but I hope they can say the same about me—that I’m truly fighting for what I think are in the best interests of the country—because I think they are, too.”

Bryan Cranston: Great actor and great American.
