If the Trump campaign was looking for a light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to polling data, they are now discovering that light is indeed a freight train headed right at them.
A new poll from Breitbart/Gravis Marketing shows that Trump is also losing to Hillary Clinton, by one point. A week ago, the same poll had Clinton winning by five points, so the Breitbart team is trying to spin this as proof that the gap between the two candidates is narrowing. But given that the survey’s margin of error is 2.5 percent, Clinton could actually have a 3.5 percent lead, negating that argument.
The real irony lies in the fact that Breitbart, which is where current Trump campaign CEO was formerly employed, is indicating exactly what all the other polls are: That Clinton is ahead across the country, and has leads in all of the major battleground states, ranging from Florida to Ohio. She is also tied or ahead in traditionally Republican states such as Arizona, Georgia, and Utah.
Democratic pollster Peter Hart said yesterday on “MTP Daily” that he expects the popular vote to be close–2 to 3 points–but that it seems likely Clinton will win a decisive electoral victory come November.
This week, Trump has been doing what he calls “outreach” to black and Hispanic voters, even though both groups wrote off the idea of voting for the Orange Menace months ago. The strategy seems to be making it appear that Trump is not as racist and xenophobic as both his words and actions have suggested for decades, which would encourage independents to support him.
But when Breitbart shows the Republican nominee tied or losing to the Democrat, you know it’s a very strange election year, indeed.
