I don’t know about you, but I have really missed Stephen Colbert, who started his new gig on CBS’ Late Show this week. Just as he did on The Colbert Report, Colbert is turning his brilliant satirical eye to the happenings of the day in American politics.
Which naturally means that he had to take on the biggest story of this election season: Donald Trump.
Colbert began by showing footage of a woman touching the Donald’s hair in South Carolina to verify that it is indeed real, saying:
“See? What’s on top of his head is definitely his. Now it’s up to science to decide whether it’s actually hair.”
Then Colbert moved on to Trump’s supporters, noting that it’s odd so many white supremacists seem to like Trump:
“Everyone likes Trump. Even white supremacists — which is amazing, ’cause Trump’s not even white; he’s more Oompa-Loompamerican.”
And then Colbert went right after Trump’s signature issue: Building a wall between the United States and Mexico. Colbert thinks it would be much easier to simply put up buildings instead of a wall:
“Yes, a border wall could not be simpler. Just build a 95-story building [and] knock it over 10,000 times. Then you keep the Mexicans out with a doorman.”
Great to have you back on TV, Stephen. We’ve missed you. And with Jon Stewart gone, we need you more than ever for political campaigns such as this one.
