One of the things that is most predictable about Donald Trump is that he’s so incredibly unpredictable. You never know what he might say at any given moment. He may declare that all Mexicans are drug dealers and rapists today and the next tell security at one of his campaign rallies to toss protesters out and confiscate their coats so they’ll be cast out into the freezing cold.
President Obama has noticed the many changing moods and insults the Donald carries around with him like so much political luggage, and on a recent interview on the “Today” show, the President was asked if he could possibly envision Trump making at State of the Union address if elected to the White House. The President’s reply was nothing short of spectacular:
“Well, I can imagine it – in a ‘Saturday Night’ skit.”
Yes, exactly! Trump is a walking, talking comedy skit. The larger problem, however, is that while he may be a joke, he is also currently leading the Republican pack in the race for the GOP nomination. And that may say more about the Republican electorate then it does about the Donald. It’s not exactly a flattering portrait of either.
Vice President Joe Biden was also interviewed as part of the NBC News exclusive look at the White House on the eve of the President’s last State of the Union address, and he was asked about Trump’s chances in November. To which the Vice President responded:
“Yes, I think it’s possible. He is divisive – I think he’d have to acknowledge that he’s very divisive – and that’s not healthy. We always do best when we act as one America. We always do poorly when we appeal to our fears and our differences.”
It certainly is not healthy, and we can already see hints of how it brings out the worst in people. Simply consider how the Muslim woman who stood up at a Trump rally last week was treated by others in the audience as she was removed from the venue by security: She was jeered and cursed at. Is this how we treat our fellow Americans? Is this how we should treat any human being?
