Pence Urges Republicans To Vote Absentee – But Not By Mail

Here’s a simple question for the vast majority of American voters: What’s the difference between absentee voting and mail-in voting?

The answer, of course, is there’s no difference whatsoever, but someone forgot to tell that to top officials in the Trump administration.

Vice President Mike Pence was a guest on Laura Ingraham’s Fox News show this week and showed a remarkable ability to talk out of both sides of his mouth on the issue of voting absentee, according to Talking Points Memo:

“’Absentee balloting is perfectly acceptable,’ Pence declared during an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham.

“The vice president described how those who wish to vote absentee ‘have to apply for an absentee ballot,’ ‘signatures are checked,’ and the ballots are ‘confirmed’–aka processes that mail-in ballots also go through for verification.

“’And we want to encourage any American that is not able to go to the polling place for any reason to apply for an absentee ballot today,’ Pence said.”

And yet, seconds later, Pence told Ingraham:

“But this universal mail-in voting, where you’re going to see literally ballots showered all across the state, is ripe for fraud. And we are headed straight to the courts to put a stop to it.”

What in the actual hell?! They’re going to court to stop voting by mail, but absentee balloting is “perfectly acceptable”? What does that even mean?

President Donald Trump is guilty of the very same doublespeak on voting by mail, repeatedly railing against people filling out their ballots and sending them via the mail, but at the same time he recently urged voters in Florida (which has a large population of senior citizens) to vote absentee.

As for Pence saying the administration is filing suit to “put a stop” to voting by mail, he’s probably going to be disappointed because very few judges are going to support making it more difficult for registered voters to cast a ballot.

All of this is being done for one reason and one reason only: To give Trump an excuse if and when he loses in November. If he were confident that he was going to win and win big, he’d be urging everyone to vote and trying to make it easier for everyone to do just that.

As usual, all we ever get from this White House is lies, bullshit, and nonsense. It’s their modus operandi.
