If perhaps you were wondering just how bad things are going for Donald Trump as he seeks to win a second term in office, consider that he’s only leading in the deep red state of Texas by 3 percent — 48 to 45 percent — over Joe Biden with just a little more than a month to go before the votes are counted.
Should Trump lose the Lone Star State, it would be a horrible humiliation for both the president and the the GOP governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, who is an ardent Trump supporter.
Hoping to stay on Trump’s good side, Abbott issued a proclamation on Thursday which prohibits multiple ballot drop-off locations in the state’s counties. Each county is now allowed to only have one, according to The Hill:
“Starting Friday, mail ballots submitted in person by eligible vote-by-mail voters must be returned to a publicly designated county voting clerk’s office, a local NBC affiliate KXAN reported.
“The proclamation allows early voters only one ballot drop-off location per county, and other drop-off satellite locations will be closed.”

Harris County, it should be noted, includes Houston, which has the largest African-American population in the state and also happens to be the single-largest county in Texas. Abbott says the move is to guarantee election security, but that’s just complete bullshit. It’s a precautionary move meant to help guarantee that Trump wins Texas, as Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa noted:
“Governor Abbott and Texas Republicans are scared. “Republicans are on the verge of losing, so Governor Abbott is trying to adjust the rules last minute. Courts all over the country … have held that it is too late to change election rules.”
Donald Trump and the GOP don’t want Americans to vote in large numbers. When turnout is high, Republicans lose. So they cheat, they lie, and they try to disenfranchise as many people as they can.
But this time we won’t let them. We’re going to vote in numbers never seen before and boot all these crooks out of office, including the wannabe fascist in the White House.
