On Sunday evening, out of nowhere, it was suddenly announced by Rudy Giuliani that another attorney on the Trump 2020 election legal team, Sidney Powell, was no longer a member of the president’s pointless effort to overturn the will of the voters and have the courts appoint Donald Trump to a second term in office.
The Hill reports:
“The Trump campaign on Sunday sought to distance itself from attorney Sidney Powell after she made a series of increasingly convoluted and baseless allegations of widespread nationwide election fraud.
“Powell, who also represents former national security adviser Michael Flynn, had appeared with campaign lawyers at press events as recently as last week.
“In a brief statement released Sunday afternoon, President Trump’s lead attorney Rudy Giuliani and senior legal adviser Jenna Ellis said that Powell ‘is not a member of the Trump Legal Team.’
“‘She is also not a lawyer for the President in his personal capacity,’ the former New York City mayor added.”
Powell had indeed made some incredibly reckless statements about the election, even going so far as to accuse Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) of conspiring to rig the election by manipulating voting machines, remarking during an appearance Saturday on Newsmax:
“Mr. Kemp and the secretary of state need to go with it, because they’re in on the Dominion scam with their last-minute purchase or award of a contract to Dominion of $100 million. The state bureau of investigation for Georgia ought to be looking into financial benefits received by Mr. Kemp and the secretary of state’s family about that time.”
Think about it: Powell was too extreme and batshit goofy for Trump and Giuliani! You’ve got to be pretty far gone to alienate someone as unhinged as Rudy.
Clearly, the Trump legal team is in complete disarray, and now they’re tossing each other under the bus. Not exactly the sort of thing you want to have happen when you’re in the process of trying to steal an election for a would-be dictator.
It’ll be interesting to see what Powell has to say about her sudden firing. Maybe she can blame it on Martians or Antifa. Either way, her 15 minutes of infamy are up.
