Ted Cruz may think he’s got Washington, D.C. on pins and needles due to his threat to shut down the government if Congress doesn’t agree to cut all federal funds for Planned Parenthood, but Elizabeth Warren says she’s ready for Teddy Boy and the fight he claims he’s spoiling for.
Giving a speech in Austin, Texas, over the weekend, Warren remarked:
“We will not let Ted Cruz shut down this government over Planned Parenthood! He wants a fight over Planned Parenthood? My answer is, ‘Bring it on, Ted!’”
Cruz and his fellow right wingers in the GOP–i.e. the entire party–have been foaming at the mouth ever since therelease of a series of specious videos which purport to show Planned Parenthood executives discussing illegal activity. None the allegations by the Center for Medical Progress have been proven, but that has not dampened Republican efforts to ramp up their continual War on Women and their reproductive health.
Senator Warren also had some comments on the current GOP frontrunner, Donald Trump and his remarks on immigration:
“No matter what Donald Trump says, we believe that immigration makes this country strong.”
Near the end of her remarks, Warren discussed her own ties to the state of Texas: She earned a degree in 1970 from the University of Houston. She also recalled that it only cost $50 a semester to attend the school back then:
“I grabbed that opportunity, and I held on with both hands. And that college diploma opened a million doors for me.”
As she showed in Austin, there may not be a more effective counterpuncher to the Republicans than Senator Warren. She will be an extremely valuable asset to Democrats in the 2016 election.
