A Kansas couple have been charged with child abuse and first-degree murder for the death of their 7-year-old son. Investigators believe Michael A. Jones and Heather Jones killed their son Adrian and fed his remains to a group of pigs.
Those who saw the inside of the home the Jones family was renting in Kansas City say it was a house of horrors. According to police, there were dead mice, cages of rats, rat poison, syringes, and pornographic videos inside. The Jones’ lived in the house with their son and six daughters. The girls were reported to be in good health and have been placed in the custody of the state.
Property owner Jennifer Hoevers said the inside of the house was disgusting:
“It took my breath away. Fast food wrappers everywhere. There’s milk, rotting food everywhere.”
Hoevers also reported black mold was growing throughout the house and there were bullet holes in some of the walls. An entire bathroom had been torn apart and the swimming pool had been ruined.
Jones worked as a bail bondsman, and the Kansas Insurance Department said it has taken steps to suspend Jones’ bail bondsman license.
A woman who worked as a babysitter for the family told The Daily Beast what it was like inside the office and home where the Jones family lived and worked:
“[Heather] didn’t like any of Mike’s kids. She always treated [the 7-year-old] differently and was mean to him. He would stand in the corner for hours at a time. He would tell me he’s hungry… and I’d sneak him food.”
The sitter, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the entire situation has left her deeply saddened:
“This little boy didn’t deserve to be missing and no one reporting it. Dying and not knowing unconditional love. That hurts. He was loved and he died thinking that he wasn’t. This has taken a huge toll on all of our hearts.”
