The recent release of a report from the Inspector General of the Department of Justice (DOJ), Michael Horowitz, was supposed to prove the FBI and DOJ under President Obama had been out of control and operating with nefarious motives in everything they did. As it turned out, former FBI Director James Comey was criticized in Horowitz’s 500-page report, but the report also noted that no one at the Justice Department had acted due to any political motivation:
“We found no evidence that the conclusions by department prosecutors were affected by bias or other improper considerations. Rather, we concluded that they were based on the prosecutor’s assessment of facts, the law and past department practice.”
That conclusion was no doubt a big disappointment for President Trump and the braying right-wing echo chamber over at Fox News. But it was something Horowitz said later when asked a question regarding the IG’s ongoing investigation that should be of special concern to Rudy Giuliani and the White House.
Asked by CNN’s Manu Raju if his office was looking into possible contacts Giuliani had with FBI agents during the 2016 campaign who allegedly told him about the reopening of the Clinton email probe — which, along with Russia, may well have helped seal the election for Trump — Horowitz replied curtly: The investigation “remains ongoing.”
Remember Giuliani’s now famous appearance on Fox News when he suggested something big was about to break in the Clinton investigation? On October 26 2016, he accurately predicted:
“I do think that all of these revelations about Hillary Clinton finally are beginning to have an impact. He’s (Comey) got a surprise or two that you’re going to hear about in the next two days.”
Here’s the video:
Two days later, Comey made his fateful announcement that the email probe was open again. He later cleared Clinton, but the damage had already been done.
While Horowitz didn’t go into any great detail regarding who was still being investigated by his office, the question he was asked did specifically involve Giuliani, which is clearly an accidental admission that Rudy is on the hot seat. It also means that Giuliani may well be a person of interest to Special Counsel Robert Mueller. If so, things are about to get very ugly for Trump’s attack dog. It couldn’t possibly happen to a more deserving douchebag.
I could think of one somewhat more deserving – the douchbag-in-chief.
