State Department Officials Come Forward To Expose Trump And Pompeo’s Ukraine Lies

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and his boss, Donald Trump, are both caught in the web of lies and threats they used in order extract promises from the government of Ukraine that Ukrainian prosecutors would open investigations of former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.

Now that an impeachment inquiry has begun in the House, both Pompeo and Trump are trying to suggest that they’re being “harassed” because congressional committees are requesting documents as part of the impeachment investigation, with Pompeo remarking Saturday during a visit to Greece:

“There have been congressional inquiries that have harassed and abused State Department employees by contacting them directly and seeking to have them provide documents… that belong to the State Department, that are official US government records.

“That’s harassment. And I’m never going to let that happen to my team.”

But Pompeo is operating from a position of weakness. He was on the infamous phone call Trump made to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in July, and now officials at the State Department are lining up to tell what they know about Pompeo’s role in the scandal that could well result in removing Trump from office on crimes ranging from obstruction to criminal interference in an election.

On Friday, we learned that U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland will testify before Congress next week.

And earlier this week, former special envoy for Ukraine Kurt Volker appeared before a House committee and handed over a damaging batch of text messages that were sent at around the same time as Trump’s call with Zelensky.

Other State Department officials are also reportedly lining up to tell what they know about the Ukraine matter, making it clear that they don’t intend to let Pompeo or Trump toss them under the bus in order to save their own hides.

Make no mistake: Trump is looking for scapegoats, and he will sacrifice anyone (Pompeo, VP Mike Pence) to divert attention away from himself. But his efforts appear to be pointless, as many of the career employees at various agencies such as the CIA, Defense Department, and State are telling what they know about this administration’s many questionable acts.

Pompeo and Trump should be very nervous. They’ve managed to piss off the wrong people, and now karma is coming to get its pound of flesh.
