We’ve all heard some ridiculous, over the top, hyperbolic language from those on the Anti-Choice side who believe that no woman should be allowed to make her own reproductive decisions, but when I heard what right wing radio host Matt Barber said recently about those who support a woman’s right to choose, I was flabbergasted.

Barber and his co-host, Mat Staver, were discussing the Texas legislature’s proposed ban on funding for breast and cervical cancer screenings, which is part of Texas’ continuing assault on Planned Parenthood. Barber and Staver said this was a great thing because it would mean Planned Parenthood could not take funds and use them to perform abortions. Hey, if women die of cancer, I guess these jackasses figure that’s the price of their perverted extremism.

Then Barber let loose with this heaping mound of excrement:

“This is the left’s sacred cow. It’s like a religious ritual, a religious rite. They worship at the altar of death, of child dismemberment. It’s like Baal worship of old, worshiping Moloch, where they would sacrifice innocent human beings. There’s no difference. They’re just not putting them in a furnace and worshiping an idol, but they really are worshiping an idol, the idol of abortion, and they’re killing the babies in this clinical setting. It’s no different from child sacrifice of old.”

Give me a freaking break! I had to read Barber’s statement several times to fully comprehend the depth of inanity he had just puked out to his listeners. He just compared every person who is Pro Choice to the Old Testament god of Baal. He said that those who believe a woman has the right to choose what happens with her body are engaged in human sacrifice.

Even worse is the fact that this nimrod doesn’t even know what Baal represented in the ancient world. Baal was the god of war, conquest, fertility, and storms. Human sacrifices were not made to Baal. In fact, Baal was most known as the god of marriage, as we learn from Jonathan Tubb of British Museum Press:

“At the center of Canaanite religion was royal concern for religious and political legitimacy and the imposition of a divinely ordained legal structure, as well as peasant emphasis on fertility of the crops, flocks, and humans.”

But hey, why let facts get in the way of spreading fear, lies, and hate? That’s what the so-called “Pro Life” folks have been doing for decades.
